Our Mission
Bux-Mont Roller Derby is a Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Organization. Built “by the skaters, for the skaters,” we are sustained by our members, our supporters, and community. Our mission is to provide a safe, fun, and empowering environment for not only our skaters, but their families, friends, and our volunteers. We strive to inspire our community by participating in numerous humanitarian efforts as well as by donating a portion of our proceeds to charity at each BRD event.

I have always had a complicated time feeling connected to being part Puerto Rican. My Dad was born in Puerto Rico and came to the states — Texas — during high school in the mid 70s, where he joined the army and met my Mom who was from Wisconsin. They raised me in a small town in Pennsylvania where the only diversity was in my house. My household's primary connection to Puerto Rico had always been the food and a handful of stories, and the only times I caught glimpses of the culture was when we visited his family in Miami and Puerto Rico. I've always been proud of my heritage while also feeling self-conscious of the fact that I had a limited understanding of the island's culture.![]()

Being on Team Puerto Rico with other Puerto Ricans feels like a cathartic step to embracing that culture more, a chance I was eager for as soon as I found out this team existed. My Dad was incredibly excited that I applied, then over the moon when I got accepted and I'm looking forward to having that deeper connection with him. He's always been one of my main Roller Derby supporters and I look forward to using this incredible sport to represent him and his family and the deep history that comes with it.![]()

Yo siempre he tenido un tiempo complicado estando conectada de hacer Puertorriqueña. Mi Papa nació en Puerto Rico y vino a los Estados Unidos-Texas durante los setentas donde fue unido el ejército y conoció a mi mamá que era de Wisconsin. Ellos me criaron en una villa en Pennsylvania donde los únicos de la diversidad somos de mi casa. La conexión principal de mi hogar con Puerto Rico siempre había sido la comida y un poco de historias, y las únicas veces que destellos de la cultura fue cuando visitamos a su familia en Miami y Puerto Rico. Siempre he estado orgullosa de mi herencia, al mismo tiempo que me siento cohibida por el hecho de que tenía una comprensión limitada de la cultura de la isla. ![]()

Estar en el equipo de Puerto Rico con otros puertorriqueños se siente como un paso catártico para abrazar más esa cultura, una oportunidad que esperaba con ansias desde que supe que existía este equipo. Mi papá estaba increíblemente emocionado de que aplicará, y luego estaba por las nubes cuando fui aceptado y estoy deseando tener esa conexión más profunda con él. Siempre ha sido uno de mis principales apoyos en el Roller Derby y espero usar este deporte increíble para representarlo a él, a su familia y a la rica historia que lo acompaña.
